Bunker
Novel

By Andrea Maria Schenkel

128 pages, published by Edition Nautilus, Hamburg, 2009

A young woman at her workplace is being attacked by a guy who hauls her off into an old bunker where he holds her captive for days. What does he really want from her?
Andrea Maria Schenkel’s third novel „Bunker“ is not based on a true case. However the unfathomable depth of human character that she reveals in this novel seems real.

A man assaults a car rental agency at night, but as the only female employee has no key to the vault, he hauls her off into an old mill in the forest and into an old bunker. Why does he holds her hostage? What is his motive? Is he someone from her past, which, as the unfolding story reveals, is less innocent than it seems?
Narrated from alternating points of view between kidnapper and kidnappee, a nightmarish, cruel game begins in the isolation of the forest. It becomes difficult to tell who is the victim and who is the perpetrator, to discern good from evil.
Andrea Maria Schenkel proves in her third novel her talent in writing about subconscious motives and the unfathomable abyss of human character.
